I’m starting Week 2 of marathon training and feeling good. I had my first core and strength training workout on Saturday and am definitely feeling it! Thankfully, I have my sports chiro and massage therapy session today to give me some feel-good. In other news, I ordered the new Brooks PureFlow 2 and am working on some new travel planning.
Marathon training Week 2
This week I’ve got my 3 back-to-back run days of Mon-Tue-Wed to get through, then a long run on Friday. I’m looking forward to getting into the runs and have high hope to get off the treadmill and back outside again. I checked out my regular running paths and they have now been plowed and most of them are getting clear. There is still quite a bit of ice out, but hopefully one more day of sun will get it melted. The temps are pretty low so that may not happen this week. I haven’t seen too many runners out, just a few brave souls. Most appear to be dodging ice and probably not getting their best runs in, but are at least getting a run in. I’m dreadfully concerned to slip on the ice so I’m playing it safe and sticking to the treadmill until I know it is more clear.
I put in an order for the new Brooks PureFlow 2 running shoes over at RoadRunner Sports. I had a 20% off coupon to use and they were offering the best deal. It looks like they are a pre-order so I don’t know exactly when they will arrive. I still have many more miles to put in my Newton Gravitys, but the miles are starting to add up on them. Since I’m now running back-to-back runs each week, I wanted a shoe rotation and this will give me a chance to test out the new Brooks PureFlows. I’ll then know which shoe I will prefer to run in for the Carmel Marathon. I suspect either shoe will do fine for me and I’ll like them both equally, but we’ll see. I am going to be able to have a good shoe review to do on them in the next month or so. The Newton Gravity is a 3mm heel-to-toe drop, the PureFlow is a 4mm drop. There shouldn’t be too much of a change for a runner?

Travel planning inspired by Downton Abbey
If you are a Downton Abbey fan, you no doubtedly caught the new season premiere last night on PBS. Coincidentally, a couple weeks ago we decided to try for a London-Oxford-Cotswolds trip in the Summer of 2014. My hubby and I have both been to England before, but not as a married couple and it has been a long time for both of us. I recently figured out that Highclere Castle where Downton is filmed is just about 30 miles south of Oxford. Naturally, a visit to Highclere will go on our travel itinerary! Did you know, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who lived at Highclere was one of the original Tutankhamun tomb openers?
We’re hoping to have some travel companions on this Great Britain trip, my high school girlfriend and her hubby. Here we are this past Fall when we were in the Smoky Mountains:
How is your training coming along? Any European travel planning happening for anyone?

I officially start training next week so this is my last week of free running with no plan for a while. I’ve been doing most of my running on my treadmill here lately because it is very icy here, and I’d rather be safe than sorry.
Yay for European travels! I’ll be going to Madrid in June to do research, but I’m hoping to go one weekend to Burgos to play tourist.
Raquelita recently posted..Things That are New(s)
Madrid sounds like so much fun … I have always wanted to get down to that area of Europe. And I’m looking forward to keeping up with your marathon training too!
